About Eatonville, Ontario

Eatonville, Ontario, a neighborhood found within the Etobicoke area of the city of Toronto, began as a farm at the close of the nineteenth century. The neighborhood got its name when the department store known as Eaton’s bought portions of the farm. Some of these areas were then given to the nearby school. This school then changed its name to Eatonville School, and soon the entire region was being referred to as Eatonville. The official year of establishment of this region was 1918.

Eatonville’s residential makeup is mainly homes constructed from the 1950s through the 1970s, though there are high-rise apartments, townhouses, and condos to be found here as well. Highway 427 goes right through the neighborhood, separating it into northern and southern sections.

This neighborhood now is home to the Etobicoke Civic Centre, which currently houses the Etobicoke Community Council. The neighborhood of Eatonville is home to two shopping malls, several churches, and to retail areas along Bloor and Dundas Streets. The home of the former owner of Eatonville’s land is currently a historic site and museum.
